I’m a 23 year old Marketing Specialist at Drexel Building Supply, born and raised in the humble town of Campbellsport. I have minimal product knowledge, and I don’t know the first thing about how to build a home. But that’s what we’re here to do in partnership with Drexel Building Supply. I will be giving the most unhinged feedback you ever did hear. I’m going to write how I speak and do my best to check for typos, but this is going to be far from perfect.

SO WHY AM I DOING THIS?!

  1. Wood foundation. Ever heard of her? … Every year, Drexel aims to build a “research and development” house to try new product, processes, etc. Think of this project as a sequel to the Model House that went up on Valley View in Campbellsport, which was an opportunity to try out fiberglass foundation. If you want the whole shebang of the 2023 home, you can check it out below. (Really a touching story, so even if you don’t care about fiberglass foundation, watch it. Please.) We’re here to see if wood foundation will be a game changer for all Drexel builders and poke holes in the home building process. To be better.
  2. Bringing back “Strawberry Box Houses” … After WWII, soldiers returned from abroad, and there were no homes for them. *Enter Strawberry Box Homes*. They were small, square homes costing $22 to $30 per month in rent and could be purchased for as low as $6,000. The exterior and plan resembled – you guessed it – the boxes strawberries were sold in. The goal here is to build with this concept and modernize the bologna out of it on a budget.
  3. Nobody talks about what it takes to build a house… So I will. Drexel wants to talk about what everyone is afraid to talk about when it comes to new construction. How many choices there are, what you can’t plan for, how scary and exciting it can be to build, etc. I will documenting every.single.thing. And please keep in mind, I have no clue what I’m doing. I will make the mistakes, so you don’t have to!!!! In return, I will be renting (from J Fleischman Solutions – they’re funding this) to own this home once it’s complete. Okay, I’m going to reiterate this… THIS IS NOT A “FREE” house!!! A super cool opportunity that I’m extremely grafetul for? Yes. A way to help builders that falls in a marketing realm? For sure. That’s all on that.

Long story short, builders and homeowners do not want to try something brand spanking new and have their home be a trial and error process… Shocking, I know. So that’s what we’re here for. We’re going through the entire building process together. Land, permits, developing, selections, EVERYTHING. Holes will be poked, feedback will be given, and I plan on being extremely humbled.

Welcome to this crazy, out of my comfort zone, completely raw, unedited, here to help our builders journey. This is going to be nothing short of an adventure.

*If you want more deets on why this is called a Strawberry Box home, here is an article. The goal is to take the concept and make it modern with Drexel products. I know I tried to explain what exactly it is in my own words, but the internet has much more brain power than I do.
